First of all, this is not a how-to book about haute couture embroidery, which I was kind of hoping for, but a full biography of the Maison Lesage which was still very interesting to me. There are plenty of historical details about the times when luxury couture was born, the rise and eventual acquisition of Maison Lesage, the private story about the Lesage family (no scandals) and the glimpses of the famous fashion houses that the embroiderers worked with.
There are plenty of stunning photos of the Lesage work throughout the book to inspire you. My favourite part was the chapters about Madeleine Vionnet. She was one of the rare and very talented designers who knew how to cut, stitch and assemble her clothes. A true perfectionist, she loved the comfortable bias-cut garments for ladies wear and her dresses were cut in such a way that a woman could put them on effortlessly and the soft fabrics she chose where flowing around the body.
