This is the second part of my learn how to sew series for beginners. In this video I will show you how I draft a basic straight skirt pattern. We will use this basic pattern to create other skirt designs. By the end of this video tutorial, you will learn how to make the basic skirt pattern with four darts on the back and the front of the skirt. You will understand how to use your personal measurements to draw the waistline, hemline, hip line, center back and center front. We will calculate the darts intake and draw the darts on our pattern. I have some bloopers for you at the end, because I had fun filming this video.
You will need your personal measurements in order to make this pattern.

To calculate darts intake:
Front: Subtract your actual front waist personal measurement from the front waist of your draft pattern. The excess is your darts. Since we have two darts on each half of the front pattern (4 darts in total on your skirt front), divide the darts intake amount in half. Each front dart will get an equal amount of excess fabric.
Back: Subtract your actual back waist personal measurement from the back waist of your draft pattern. The excess is your darts. Since we have two darts on each half of the back pattern, divide the darts intake amount in half. Each back dart will get an equal amount of excess fabric.
In the next step, we will make a mockup to test the pattern. I will show you how to make basic alterations at this step.
